When I worked for Prime they didn't have any class on chaining and I was to ignorant to learn on my own. When the time came I was unprepared on the side of 90 before Lookout. I got lucky when an experienced guy parked in front of me and taught me how to throw them as he did his. Don't be an idiot like I was! The time to learn is not on the roadside at night in the snow. Pull those chains out and learn to put them on before you get stuck and for #### sake never ignore the chain laws when they are posted.

Good post. Check the chains out beforehand. On the side of the road is not the time to find out that you have broken chains or ones that don't fit. Get someone to show you how to best store them and hang them. And you should practice doing it until you are comfortable doing it. Because it's gonna be a lot different in the cold wet miserable snow.

Was the drive that helped u a flatbed driver? . If it was that may have been me. I remeber helping a guy out on lookout pass last winter , said he never threw chains before so i finished putting my socks on and helped him out with chains.

Stop as soon as you can in the chain area, go as tight as you can, and drive to the end. Odds are you'll be able to tighten them some more.

When it's time to chain, it's time to park and catch up on podcasts. I don't haul anything that can't wait a day or 3.
