Sept 25, 2009 update for the Garmin 465T

848 Highway 68 South
Xenia, OH

Finally got a hold of someone who knew where it was. The correct location is just south of 35 and 68 on the east side. See what the others come up with.

Garmin 465T: has it. (After entering Xenia as the city, I had to type "us" for the street names and then tap "done." It then came up with a list of things that begin with "us" and one of them was "US-68 (N,S)" which I then tapped and it entered correctly into the unit. I tried several other ways that didn't work, but this did. Unit is not very intuitive on that one for sure, but it would take you to the right address if you put it in exactly the way I just described.)

PC Miler: calls the road "US-68" but does not have the "848" address on it unless you use the "pick on map" feature to tap along that road until you get to #848. If you added it that way, it will take you there correctly but it was tedious.

Cobra: right on the money. no problems.

Goodyear: Allowed me to enter is as long as I put the letters "us" in front of the "68." But the actual location when I checked it on the map would have actually put me about 20 miles north of the real place.

Mapquest: has it, but you have to enter it as "848 US route 68 south"

Google maps: has it (but you have to enter it as "848 US Route 68S" or it gets all messed up.

CC does. I will soon - if/when they ever finally get mine to me... Supposedly it's "in the mail" as they say from Rand.

Then I'll be able to proceed with getting them into the mix on these.

 

The 465t has little or no truck routing on surface streets. It does not differentiate between truck routes marked in orange and tiny residential streets marked in gray. In fact, in a lot of places, it prefers the gray streets.

Routing through St Louis is screwed up now. Garmin has decided to route all truck traffic across the martin luther king bridge to get to and from Illinois. Never mind that to get on it the unit tells you to make a 90 degree right turn off the I-70 overpass, smash through the concrete rail, and take flight to land on the bridge below. Or if coming the other way you get dumped out into downtown. This after bypassing all other major highway exits, like I-55. Nice job, Garmin.

It's also started recalculating the route while I'm on the route. Repeatedly.

The NTTS directory is pretty pathetic too. Most tire shops aren't listed, most fuel stops aren't, a lot of the address are off by miles, and the search feature still searches the entire planet, meaning it locks and fails most of the time.

 

diselboss, just wondering, how often do you assist a truck out of an area he/she/they should no be in, all because they put their trust into the GPS units, rather then calling and asking the ship con for directions, or even perhaps as reading street signs saying " NO TRUCKS "...?
i have the 205v i think is which one i have, and its truck friendly, it does not have specific truck routing on it, it pretty much routes me around residential neighborhoods, off the parkways, but i never have problems with it, i dont go down roads that are clearly no truck routs just to cut through, i get paid by the mile... and 9 out of 10 times, my gps directions are 100% exact to the qc in the truck...
but anyway DB, back to my question, does that happen often?

 

I hope Garmin gets on the stick with the fixes. Don't think this one is ready for prime time yet. My old 200W seemed to work better than this one..
