Does anyone have a list of states that either allow or look the other way for parking on the on ramps? Or alternatively, which states to avoid?

Obviously, it’s not the safest thing to do. Just wondering for last resort parking.

    Maddie Thanks this.

My planning department often sends me to shippers with little or no remaining time on my 14. In many areas of the country that is not an issue, as I can PC to parking without much issue 24/7. But on the east coast, I tend to not find as much available parking during the hours of, say 2100 to 0300 or so. That’s why I’m asking. Just trying to be prepared for any eventually.

:laughing-guffaw:Trip planning does no good when shipper holds you up for 5 hours or maybe accident or weather. There is no one size fits all to trip planning.

On the east coast, you just have to keep your eyes peeled for hideouts. Rest areas and truck stops arent very plentiful north of Ruther Glen, VA. Download Google maps, put it in satellite mode and scope out the area. You may get lucky that way. Also, if the shippers and receivers don't run you off, use their property if you can....just don't trash it

    Dismissive unhelpful response.

I avoid parking on ramps at all costs, but the few times I have done so is when my plans for the day we’re completely screwed up by road shutdowns, breakdowns, and bad shipper/recievers.

Neither rigs or 4wheelers should be parked on the on ramps. It's an accident in the making. So my answer was valid. There are plenty of other places to park AND if you trip plan properly you won't need to do it.

I bow down in awe of your super trucker skills.

A mere mortal such as myself has found myself without a place to park after an unexpected multi hour delay in a busy area.

You must be able plan for all contingencies before starting any trip:

“hmm this is where I’ll park if I blow a tire at mile mark 281 and lose 3 hours.”

“ AND this is where I park if I blow a tire at mile marker 143 and lose 4 hours.”
