59-year-old combat vet redoes basic training after 10-year break to join Army reserve

Some wonder how he can do that. There's a formula that's used.
Don't know the exact formula used now, but the old formula works for him.
Take years of active duty, 17 yrs., and subtract from his age of 59 and that equals 42.
42 is the maximum age for enlistment, so he qualified.

So, any of you old trucking vets that can meet the formula, go finish your military career, then come back to trucking.

Friend of mine was an Army Major in tanks. He had gray hair and in his 40's. The Navy took him as an E-6.
Never know until you try. He was shocked the Navy let him enlist.

 

Each branch of the military has their own rules on that. Also, think there's some waivers for some specialties. Truck drivers might be offered a position in the Navy Seabees for example. Several different variables.
The guy I know that was an Army Major and the Navy took him in as an E-6, retired at Major retirement pay.
Retirement pay is based on the highest rank honorably held.
