Also . Not every ramp is treated the same. There is many ramps out west that are so far off the actuall freeway and u can count on one hand how many cars are actually gonna come by at night.... It is a big difference than being out east or in a big city with lots of traffic....

Let me be clear. I've learned from my incredible and very knowledgeable Tarp Monkey friends that crap happens. So yes you can run out of hours no matter what you do. I also know that hos does allow using PC to get to a safe place to stay.

My thoughts from great advice you plan on having to stop every quarter of your planned driving that day.

I see using ramps as the very last resort.

What will u do when they burn ur 14 hour clock at the dock at 2am on the east coast and u only waited 6 hours so u cant use the 8-2 split... all truck stops in surrounding areas are filled to the brim. Rest areas as well. No parking on customer property. Welcome to the wonderful world of elogs.

Personally I don’t look real hard at all for a place to park until about the 2 hour mark for reasons of unexpected delays as previously mentioned; I agree completely that you shouldn’t park on an on ramp, but there’s practically no truck stops in the Northeast; what I did see a lot of were those service stations and they have truck parking, anything short of a truck stop I’d go for one of those, or look for a Home Depot, Lowes or Walmart that I can safely get to

Don’t say “out West” man because I really wanna go back to Utah and park on one of the pullouts on the side of a mountain again, most peaceful place ever

Trust me I paid a fine for using pc that one time I had 20 minutes left on the clock at the shipper, was ignorant of how to properly use it and it counted as “hiding drive time” when all I had to do was say I couldn’t park at the shipper and be on my merry way to the truck stop that was only 5 more minutes away; now if you run out of time because of a road closure, blown tire, etc, that’s different but don’t use pc for no reason just to extend your drive time because that’s the time you should’ve trip planned better; also I’m assuming every company is different because here at Western Express anything besides running out of hours at the shipper/consignee they want us to log it as driving, not pc.

Yep, and the day I opened this thread I must have had a good premonition.

Sure enough, I was dispatched on a 1,350 mile repower. To make the delivery, I needed to run at governor speed, taking exactly 10 hour breaks and exactly 30 minute breaks to make it. To do that, I needed to swap trailers and get to the other side of Nashville before shutting down for my first 10, which I did with ~15 minutes on my 14. I got lucky and took a spot that was just pulled out of as I drove up to it. Had that not worked out like that, I very likely would have been looking at ramps.

I've never done a 10 on an on ramp yet, but sooner or later it's bound to happen.

Edit: Yeah, I probably could have done some creative parking. But the point is planning doesn't always get you to a perfect parking spot.
