Haliburton T800

    Recently bought from auction a T800 from haliburton with cat c13 motor. Runs good. Was amazingly dirty but got her cleaned up good. Couple questions. Truck only has 90,000 miles but 14,000 hours it also has an enormous wet kit on the back. Am curious what this truck was used for?

    Have also noticed that the AC blows cold when at idle but if your working the truck it seems to cut off and blow hot air, any ideas what that could be?

    Frac hands sit in those trucks 24/7 while they idle. The trucks will drive to location, and then sit there for a month completing the wells on that pad. Then, it goes home for a bath, and off to the next location thirty miles down the road to sit for another month. But Halliburton takes maintenance very very seriously. The mileage and hours are GPS'd back to the yard, and when it's due for a PM, the truck is put out of service until it gets handled. And if they're just changing the oil, they're going to go ahead and do fuel filters, air filter, etc at the same time.

    I worked for Halliburton on the wireline side. My brother was a frac mechanic for them for about twelve years. They aren't afraid to throw money at maintenance. Once everything is done, they even have to go to be QC'd before they're signed off on.

    You're going to have to put a good set of gauges on the A/C system and see what its doing.

    Schlumberger was the same way with maintenance.

    Come back from blowing cement off and put it on the empty line and it gets ran through the shop before it goes back out

    That wet kit is designed to start some big equipment. A pump, generator and they're only designed to run those ptos for a few seconds. Think of it like a starter

    I suspect that the high pressure cut-out switch is being activated when the RPMs go up above idle.

    That, combined with the fact that it blows really cold at idle, makes me think that the system was probably deliberately overcharged in order to blow as cold as possible at idle.
