I've picked up loads from Esso in Sarnia On,,,considering all the name brands they load on to the wagon i think much of it is in the packaging and marketing.

Yup it is. Ive hauled lots out of shell oil in Portland and they get rail cars and truck loads of base oil then blend it to their customers spec’s. Just like gas/diesel. Pull into the rack load for a Tesoro station, deliver, come back and hook up to the same loading pipes and press the chevron button and as your loaded their additive package is injected then roll out to the chevron station. Lol

Oil is oil, only difference is the additives. Mobil Delvac and Rotella, and every name brand imaginable. Even Honda brand. All are packaged in Mckees Rocks Pa. along with plenty other refineries, I’m sure. Same oil, different additives and detergents.

I've ran John deere oil, Rotella no issues. Ran Walmart brand once and it seemed to burn oil faster than normal. Running Delo now and I think its my favorite. Doesn't seem to burn much and doesn't have the smell of Rotella. I dunno I always figured its all basically the same oil too.

I ve been running Mobil Delvac for years, in my Detroit’s. Just bought 12 gallons at Walmart today, $11 a gallon. Always ran Rotella in my Cat. Always heard that’s how it’s supposed to be, Lol. Never used Delo, I think the tag on Detroit’s valve cover says use Delo. Must be good oil. Always thought it was just a Bussiness Marketing scheme between Detroit and Delo. Given the blow by problems of the 12.7s, I wonder if maybe Delo is recommended for a reason? Just a thought.

    Not really.
I haul base oil (the oil just before they blend into engineoil, gearbox oil,......)
There are a lot off different base oils so alot off different combo's possible.
But i have also seen the same batch off 10w40 go into 2 different brand bottles.
The fact off the matter is you just don't know.
It can be that brand X's 10w40 is the same as brand Y's while brand Z's has it's own very specific blend.
All made and drummed/bottled in the same factory on the same line.

Fyi inbetween different blends they flush their lines so all residue is removed.

    spsauerland and Rideandrepair Thank this.
