I called a broker this morning about a load and I said how heavy is the load?

He said max weight. I said what is Max weight?

He said it's the maximum weight that you can carry. I said well how do you know how much I can carry different trucks gross different amount

He said it's just max weight. He said they won't overload you Beyond being legal but it's max weight.

So I said well is that like 45,000 or 46,000 isn't there some kind of a number?

He said no there's no number its max weight and then he got mad and hung up.

I think that's really funny I'm sitting here laughing but who the hell would load their truck and you have no idea what's going on they might put a hundred thousand pounds on that truck...

Have any of you guys ever been told max weight?

We load a lot of produce/potato's/other products to the max weight/capacity the truck can haul. Scale in/scale out. But we're being paid by the CWT/box

What's so funny about that? They weigh you in for your empty weight then load you with what you can legally haul and send you on your way. I've hauled many loads like that.

There’s probably one nearby that you’ll scale in and out. I’d find out what the product is. Up in your neighborhood there’s a bunch of “recycling “ loads. Some turn out to be pure trash.

I load that way every time unless they specifically say a weight and when that happens it’s normally a light load of 48,000 pounds. Otherwise its load the wagon tell Im grossed out. But then again I haul bulk so.

Rideandrepair, 650cat425 and Long FLD Thank this.

Beer loads do this for sure. I doubt you'd have a load like this without a scale on site. Kind of makes no sense.

From the sound of it, he didn't know either and was just repeating what he heard, then got mad when he couldn't explain it, probably did you a favor. At least you now know what that means. Always good to know what your empty weight is anyway, with full tanks...

This whole thread should be a reminder for any O/O. You gotta feel broker agents out. If it's the actual broker or rep on that account they will know everything about it. if they don't know then they grabbed it off the spot market and are reselling it and that's a red flag for lots of things. Doesn't mean you shouldn't take it. It means you need to ask all of your questions and get the right answers to them or move on. In this case the OP did and saved himself lots of trouble probably.

So much info has to be swapped in quick calls to brokers on loads. There is no way to master it except to practice. You'll develop a really sharp BS filter which will save you headaches and money. Don't let that 'I missed this one' thing get to you. There's always freight. If they are desperate they'll get the info, call you back and pay you more.
