I got half way through.my instruction.before I was a trucker but didn't finish..you know it's about 10000 now.to get your license last I heard. We got a little too close to a regional prop plane on one of our flights..my instructor wasn't too happy..it wasnt y fault. Best way to do it is go in with a couple of other people and share a plane,.split the costs. I just really couldn't afford it any longer. At our airport where the school.wad located we could get our hours in anytime it was good for us .there were plenty of pilots out there needing hours. You should be able to do it at your leisure.

Years ago I was halfway through getting my pilot's license. Love general aviation, just too expense with kids. However, if I ever won the lottery (difficult since I almost never play), there is no question I'd go back and get my license and a plane. Probably, if money was not a barrier, I'd go on to get a rotary wing license also. I think it'd be so cool to be licensed to drive a motorcycle (actually had a motorcycle license before I had a car license), car, semi, plane and helicopter! But, money issues have kept me away from general aviation, it is expensive and with my family obligations, just seems too selfish to pursue.

I have read the new Microsoft Flight Simulator is amazing. Well worth building a new PC for. Next best thing especially in VR.

    Yep, it can be done.
    Think outside the box.
Got my PPSEL ticket in ‘01 while OTR.
Trained Online for classroom certification at night in the truck.
    @ 40yrs old I couldn’t grasp the classroom deal.
Scheduled ground school and training flights during home time, think 10hr each required then.
Hired CFI at local FBO, told him my plan, they’re more than happy to work with you.
If I had time on the road I’d find FBO, rent a plane w/instructor that wanted to go sightseeing and practice maneuvers, never a problem.
I’ve rented in Atlanta, St Cloud, Ft Pierce, N Las Vegas, (Freaking awesome When requested strip approach!!) Troutdale Or., Mt St Helens & Columbia river, very cool from the air.
    Couple others.
Always Called out on CB if anyone wanted to ride along, 10yrs never one taker. Oh well.
Even bought my own plane, before I got my license.
    No pressure there right!?! Lol
Guess depends how bad you want it.
Again, just think outside the box.
    Good luck to ya.

I'm a private pilot. I can't imagine trying to learn to fly and only doing it once every so often. If you did manage to get your ticket I doubt you'd be a very safe pilot anyway.

Used to fly back to MN from the midwest with checks picked up for equipment deliveries by a boss who needed the cash.
Single engine Cessna or twin prop Beechcraft. Was a blast. Drop off checks and fly right back.
About ten years ago took a demo flight and buzzed my workplace.
Really wanted to go for my private license.
Cost and time constraints, combined w other time/cash consuming interests prevented me from continuing.
I have a coworker who maintains his medical and license but hasn't flown in years. Another friend who was licensed decades ago just didn't have the time for recreational flying even though rental cost isn't prohibitive.
Getting a PPL is a lofty goal(pun intended.)

I watched this Morgan Spurlock documentary and it didn't make the broiler chicken farm business look very good as a career option.
