I had heard horror stories of inheriting an unpaid 2290, when buying a Truck. But in 96, when I did, the IRS told Me, I was only liable from the time I bought it. Which made sense. I really don’t know, if or when it was a problem. I guess they used to hold up Title work or something, since I’d heard a lot about needing a paid copy, from the previous Owner. Wasn’t an issue though.

If you file using ExpressTruckTax, don't pick a fax option or mail. They don't tell you about the email option that you will receive everything literally in seconds for which you don't pay anything extra than $9.90. I was doing it for the first time, and I didn't know. So, I paid $5 extra for the post office to send me an original copy (I thought) and another $2 for a faxed copy. That was so stupid. Their website is designed for first-timers who actually fall for it. LOL
And I only did that because I hate for anything to get lost somehow.
Otherwise, it was designed for dummies to file the 2290 form.Last edited: Aug 6, 2020

Just an update.
I filed again this year using express tax. -
I've always liked Express Tax. Had to call them once about something and they were very helpful over the phone. I think it was the time the dealership put the wrong VIN on one my truck purchases but I can't remember.
