We absorbed a small trucking company last year and along with the acquisition came a dump truck driver of 30+ years who decided to say f-it and go over the road with his wife and dog. They sold every earthly possession they owned and I believe it is a 5 year plan. Been about 2 years into it and I was just recently able to meet this driver. They seem very satisfied and financially sound. I was left with a good impression that he is living a rewarding lifestyle.

So minor update. All the background and DMV checks have been done. Start class on the 19th.
Earlier today I was feeling like an idiot. Had forgotten to ask some pay questions. But I found a 2017 post that had the answers.
3 weeks of CDL school no pay. But $70 food perk.
First couple weeks with the trainer $450
Then jumps to $500.
Once solo it's 40 cpm with 10 being per diem.
Complaints new drivers had were getting home. That's not an issue for me.
So if I can average 500 miles a day once solo. I'll be very happy.
Trying to figure out when to leave. It's a 16 hour drive. I have a 2pm Apt on that Friday to get to. It's sorta like my first trip planning. LOL
Part of me wants to just drive till I get tired and sleep at the rest stops. The other half wants to just get a hotel in shreveport.
As it stands. Get birth certificate. Deal with ticket on the 6th via zoom. Head to TX and switch license and last start class.D.Tibbitt, Rocks and LoSt_AgAiN Thank this. -
Oh. One more thing. Seems they have PBs, FSs, and KWs.

So small update. They sent a link to the study guide they use and videos. Interesting thing. The study guide is a "highlighted" version of the TX CDL Guide. They have the parts highlighted that show up in the test. Kind of interesting. So It's mainly, "here's what you need to pass it stupid." Vs truly learning everything. Kind of supports the "steering wheel holder" image of the Mega. Not that I am complaining. I know the gist of the book. But the details of the test are what is the hard part.

I use cheap brown jersey gloves, they work fine. Got a 3-pack, a year later I’m still on the first pair.

Ok, so just got done talking with the recruiter and got some updated info. He's not up to speed on the per diem. Said something like $50-60 a "day." But as far as current cpm for no exp. It's 36 CPM. Also a month ago they changed the "trainer" weeks pay. Not 450 first three weeks and 500 last three. It is 500 a week all "six" weeks or 240 hours. Whichever is less. No delays currently getting into a truck with a trainer from class.
