    With strict no idling laws in some areas, the need to cook and various electronics to make life OTR more tolerable would you work without an APU.

    If a company doesn't care about the comfort of their drivers, what does that say about the company?

    I've driven without AC and never had an APU but this isn't ten years ago. Remember power steering was considered a luxury at one time too.

    Too many variables unless you’re speaking of average OTR work. I was with my last company for about 10 years total and we didn’t have an APU, only a Webasto Hester for winter. But....we ran the Northwest and Western Canada only. Most nights it was comfortable sleeping with the screens in the windows, over the course of a summer we usually only had a few nights where we’d have to idle all night. We also didn’t have the open frame space to mount one if we wanted to.

    Back to your question, if I was doing your average trucking job I would put an APU fairly high on the list of must haves if I was looking for a job.

    For some reason I've never felt comfortable sleeping with my windows cracked.
    I hope I haven't ruined anyone's nap.:eek:

    Nice pics.

    I used to work for a certain mega based in Phoenix without an APU.

    One morning (4am) I woke up to a bat flying around above my bed.

    Stopped lowering the windows at night after that

    You have to get those Breezeway screens. At least then the animals have to chew their way into the truck.

    Prefer idling. Never been bothered in any state idling is supposedly prohibited, including NE and west coast. Anymore I have trouble sleeping well if the truck isn’t running

    I don't think they'll bother you much if you have those cali certified stickers on your truck. 08 and newer. You're making there air cleaner.

    I've seen older trucks get hassled though.

    I never had an apu when I was otr.

    As long as I can idle, I don't need an APU. Sure it would be nice when at some facilities where you load/unload indoors (I do tanker), but I do wonder if they would let you fire up a diesel APU anyway as there is still a CO2 safety issue.
