I retract my previous......it sure does look like a repair. Surely the repairer should have grooved the repair to match the tire.
I forgive him.
Is this tire legal?

From FMCSA:

(b) Any tire on the front wheels of a bus, truck, or truck tractor shall have a tread groove pattern depth of at least 4⁄32 of an inch when measured at any point on a major tread groove. The measurements shall not be made where tie bars, humps, or fillets are located.
(c) Except as provided in paragraph (b) of this section, tires shall have a tread groove pattern depth of at least 2⁄32 of an inch when measured in a major tread groove. The measurement shall not be made where tie bars, humps or fillets are located.
From CVSA OOS criteria:
Any Tire on Any Front Steering Axle(s) of a Power Unit
(1) With less than 2/32 inch (1.6 mm) tread when measured in any two adjacent major tread grooves (typically any groove containing a tread wear indicator) at any location on the tire. (393.75(b))
All Tires Other Than Those Found on the Front Steering Axle(s) of a Power Unit
So worn that less than 1/32 inch (. 8 mm) tread remains when measured in any two adjacent major tread grooves (typically any groove containing a tread wear indicator) at three separate locations around the circumference of the tire at least 8 inches (203.2 mm) apart. (393.75(c))Rideandrepair, singlescrewshaker and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
One of the first tires I had to inspect this morning. Lol. Foriegn material ie loose nylon or polyester string wasn’t trimmed correctly got molded into the belt edge and worked its self loose after about 25,000 miles.

It can cause a tread separation due to the wicking effect it can have. Just like a string plug repair it can soak up moisture and allow it to get to the steel and cause it to rust and fail. That most likely wouldn’t happen with this one though because it’s a 2015 dot coming up on it’s 6 year max warranty and nothing has happened to it yet.BoxCarKidd, Rideandrepair and singlescrewshaker Thank this.
