Nah, that is not how it works in spot market. You can possibly make some relationships for a regular every week loads, but when it comes to late night expedited shipments, people are prepared to pay a lot. Charging a little amount only makes you look not very smart, not experienced, cheap not knowing what you are doing carrier.
This kind of transactions don't bring any long term benefits

Thank you! Yes it was my first and interesting run :) thanks for the tips. It's been a wild ride since then... The second load was supposed to be an 8k 'stack of rubber sheets'. Turned out to be a big coil, fun ride! 8k pushing down on 3sqft of deck... Got scaled, and it was good on the trailer axles!

Lol. Not feeling berated. The academy knocked that #### outta me years ago. I appreciate the tips, I know to feel em out more next time and charge more, but yes, first load and I probably would've done it free just to get the experience.. it wasn't much time on my part. Glad to build the connection. Made me even more confident for the next three dozen calls I've made to brokers in the last 24hrs.

Makes sense. It was after all my very first load ever, first glimpse of this industry. So ya, about par for 'not experienced, cheap not knowing what you are doing carrier'.

That's why I'll be posting more basic questions, like recommendations on chaining the steel load I'm hauling to Denver tomorrow, my choice of route, etc.

Forums like this are great, you get a good group of folks willing to help, and always learning themselves. Good to have community and camaraderie as well.

    Love it.

You just said it, he’s got no experience. He made a broker happy and he got his feet wet.

What moron broker would blacklist anyone for running freight too cheap? He’s definitely got some business sense judging by his posts, he’s going to do more loads for that broker and he will be able to charge more in the future. Being greedy from the start IS NOT going to start a relationship off on the right foot.

    You’re alone with your opinion...

Ok for free would not have been a good transaction haha.

Good for you buddy. I always thought making a website was a waste of time...I can see the value in it now

Good deal !! First load off your own website? Not so tech savvy myself. What would I google in the Phoenix area ( I think ) to get a pallet moved to the airport?

    singlescrewshaker and Coffey Thank this.
