Is This Job Offer Reasonable?

I’m currently looking for a new company. I received an offer from someone who I believe to be the owner of a very small fleet (33 trucks) and I wanted to ask your opinion on his offer as I’m still new (1.5 years) and am not sure what a reasonable offer is especially in the Oversized aspect of the industry, which I have no experience at all. I’ll just bullet what I’ve learned from talking to him so far.

Oversized loads hauling mod boxes for apartments - weekly hometime and home all major holidays and Christmas bonus - 1500-1800 a week - some equipment has fridges and inverters, some don’t - no benefits - dedicated to VBC, Champion, Ritz, Excel.

This is what Iver learned so far. Does this sound like a reasonable offer or am I being played? Like I said, I have no experience with oversized loads so getting my foot into this aspect of the industry would be interesting. And are there any other questions I should be asking? I appreciate anyones advice.

 

he didn’t say anything about 1099 but again I didn’t ask. I did however check their inspection history by their DOT# and saw they had a 50% out of service record. I don’t know if oversized loads are more likely to be put oos but that struck a chord for sure. I do think I’m going to walk on this and keep looking.

 

The benefits were an immediate flag for me, I’m not paying for private health if I can help it. As far as the trucks, like I said he’s a very small company so he probably buys them when he sees a deal but that’s also a red flag and after checking their inspection history and seeing 50% out of service rating, I can’t help but imaging the mechanical condition those trucks may be in.

 

150 inspections. I’m not sure yet on the 1099 but I’ve already decided I think I’ll pass on the offer.

 

I don’t know much about oversized like I said, I assumed they were all mechanical but still something I don’t want it deal with. I don’t want to drag the owner through the mud however so I’ll leave it at that.
