I applied for my authority & got my DOT, MC active lately. If I only plan to operate intrastate with a California base plate, do I still need to file IFTA? Thanks in advance.

If you’re not crossing state lines, you don’t need irp or ifta.
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
Might be different terminology for each state and laws but in MA if you register just commercial truck it’s intrastate and you do not need ifta, apportioned registration (interstate) does to go out of state, I believe you need to file for atleast two states to run them too
you do still need to enrolled in the wiz quiz program however and most likely a dot number -
Just applied for my MC and DOT3 etc. As well but you can run within state borders without ifta or apportioned plate. And the mc ucr dot3 will allow you to permit to drive across the line if you need to.

Depends on your state. In TN you don’t have to have IFTA or USDOT if you are running intrastate.

I'm not sure, or I read wrong, if anyone actually answered the question. Yes we know intrastate doesn't need a dot or ifta. That wasn't the question though,
The question is, does having a US DOT number, even if not going interstate, means he also is required to do IFTA, even if not going out of state. I don't know the answer and I think the op's best bet is to call up OOIDA, but hopefully someone here knows so it can be shared.GreenPete359 Thanks this. -
ZVar Thanks this.

you can have a US DOT # be registered over 26,001lbs. and still register under a normal commercial tag. (In NJ it would be an X tag.) both IRP & IFTA only become a requirement when you cross a state line (an interstate operation)
for reference i would point you toward any local construction outfits near you. Look at their Tractors & dump trucks, you won’t find ifta stickers or A tags. -
Ifta is so you can pay fuel tax for all states ran in, if you are only running one state there is no reason to file it, when you get your plates you actually have to do an estimated mileage in atleast one other state with ifta/irp plates,
