The planet will run out of hydrocarbons within the decade so there will be no diesel trucks on the roads to even have a job, unless they nail down battery powered trucks.
Since autonomous trucks are gaining serious ground should I be looking for a new career?

5g is the internet's newest conspiracy theory.
It gives off about the same power as a 4g tower.
The issue is we need so many more towers to cover the same area as a 4g tower would. Thats the range issue I brought up.
It will be worked out.
That viral video you posted, neighbors commented that tree has been dying since 2012 (I think).
Half of a tree can die while the other side remains healthy. I'm not an expert but it has to do with soil erosion and root health. Look it up.
We will be fine. -
also the 5g tower he is referring to is a street light.

Any lost OTR job by autonomous trucks will be replaced by a local driving job delivering what they carry and we're a good 5-10 years away from any noticeable implementation. Risk is a big deal and every accident will take time to be litigated. -
Just heard on the news that electric truck maker Nikola CEO stepped down for making false statements to investors about the trucks they were designing. The stock for Nikola is falling like a rock.
Just more evidence that all of the claims these companies are making about autonomous trucks taking over our jobs in the near future is complete BS.

For the op. Trucking will be around for a while yet. But it’s never a bad idea to learn new things. It pays well and will provide you with a good living for the foreseeable future if your lucky. But also remember that living can be taken away from you. The wrong health issue, a bad ticket or an accident can force you out tomorrow. And it’s also not the healthiest lifestyle.
Learning another skill and getting out like I am isn’t a bad idea. But for now I’m keeping my cdl in my back pocket just incase I need it.
As for why I chose web development. The demand is high and it offers the ability to work remote so I can eventually go down that road and spend more time traveling.
Try freecodecamp.org if your interested in learning to write code. You will quickly find out if it’s for you with no cost or risk.Deadwood Thanks this. -
In 10 years the autonomous trucks may start to gain some ground for simple Interstate driving between hi-tech Distribution Centers, until then it is going to be constant 'are we there yet?' talk.
Companies double the cost to pay drivers to sit in the driver seat and to pay for the enchantment technology for autonomous trucks. Autopilots have been flying planes for decades and it still needs human pilots, places where trucks go (non-DC pick up/delivery yards, weigh scales, construction zones, etc) are more complicated to navigate through than the airports and open air.
By the time the world around is ready to accommodate autonomous truck sensors, the greater threat for truckers to lose jobs would become drones or being replaced by robots.
