I posted this in the freight broker section but I didn't get many responses, so I'm just kind of curious what anyone thinks of this.

I did four loads for this particular broker. At every load they give me a number for a Comcheck that they pay for the lumpers.

The first load I did for them I was having a problem with my software and I couldn't attach anything to the invoice. So that one took me a few days to get to them.

Now on the rate con I think it says that the lumper fees receipt have to be in within 24 hours or 48 Hours something like that. So I went round and ran with them about the lumper fee for that first load and they swore upside down inside out every which way it wasn't a problem and I will get paid for it.

So I get my first check for them and for all four of the trips they deducted the lumper fees from that first check.

Now I did not get the check until 5 on Friday so I was not able to call them so we'll see what they say

Now mind you I sent those lumper fee receipts in as soon as it was paid and I have the receipt in my hand I scanned it and I sent it to them before I even pulled out of the door. Only the first load took me a few days to get to them because of the software problem and because I really didn't understand their process.

I mean it's really kind of ridiculous because I have the receipts that say they paid for it yet they took them out of my pay.

I almost could see the first one, but I don't think it was a mistake they took them all. They have their own Department that handles accesories and that's right where they were sent to. I have the receipts and email to prove it.

If I don't get paid it's not the end of the world I'm not going to have a heart attack over it and I'll survive. But fair is fair.

Now I know I can't go after their bond on Accessory charges but is there any way that if they won't pay me that I can take action?

    Broker shenanigans!

I never had any dealings with Brooker
As far as brokers I front the money and bill it back.

Okay so I called them this morning and the lady says she knows nothing about accessorials but she said what they do is they take it out of your settlement and then they reimburse you with a different load number.

When I asked her why they do that she said I don't know I have no idea I didn't understand what they do I don't know why they do it it's very complicated blah blah blah blah blah but they're going to send you a separate check and reimburse you.

Then she said there's a fee for the comcheck of $3 and that they will take out of your settlement.

I said there's nowhere on the rate con that says that they take that fee and she said well that's just what it is that's what they'll do and that's it and there's nothing you can do about it and it's $3 for each one.

Is that standard that companies take a fee like that for every comcheck that they write for you?

Pretty standard to charge for a comchek. Lot of bigger brokers pay the unloading on a separate check

It's fascinating to me how I can run a little company out of my sleeper. Everything is paid electronically in minutes except two items ( and if I'm on the road find time to get to a post office).

The big items are on an automatic debit schedule.

Yet these monster corporations that live in glass towers for some reason can't tie their own shoes.

It never happened to me as a company driver or as an owner operator.

Be careful about CH Robinson because if you request a comcheck to pay a lumper, they will see it as a regular cash advance and charge you a fee for it. I think the minimum is $15. Then they will reimburse you for the lumper fee but not for the advance fee.
If you are on a JB Hunt load, never pay it out of your own packet or they will never reimburse you, even though it is clear that you needed to hire lumpers. You must call them to get comcheck Express code.

Some brokers don't charge fees but most of them do. It's better to just pay for the lumper yourself and not use the broker's money. Get an updated rate con with that lumper money added on and all is good. I notice one mega broker that I book with often the lumpers are already taken care of so I'm removed from that transaction, which is how it should be. I wish they would all do that.
