    Hi,
I've been a CDL driver for 4 years now and finally I decided to get my own authority and formed my own trucking company (LLC). I have some questions and need some helps. I bought my truck in FL dealership and drove it home to NC last week with a temp plate. My understanding is I have to wait on the title to transfer to NC so that I can register the truck before I can do the IRP/IFTA. I called NC IRP office in Raleigh this morning and asked how long it takes for title transfer during this time. The person on the phone was not very helpful and she told me she don't know how long. I don't wanna paying on insurance and other upfront expenses and just let the truck sit here and do nothing. I aleady have DOT and my MC number just activated a few days ago.

Can I run some intrastate (within NC) loads while I am waitting on to get the truck title transfer/registration since I have no IRP/IFTA now?

Can I get the temp trip and fuel permits to run some interstate loads while i am waitting on to get my truck register with NC and setup the IRP/IFTA? It could be weeks (really don't know how long) before I can have my IRP/IFTA ready to go. I really don't want my truck just sitting here and cannot do anything but still paying for insurance/expense and no income. Espeically now the $$ is the best ever for freight.

My point is, I want the truck start running in anyway is possible.

Any sugguestions/advice will be greatly appreciated!

If you've got your MC you've already paid insurance.

Are you certain you have to title the truck in NC? Lots of states don't require the truck to be titled in their state for IRP. Also, if you register for intrastate commercial operations and then turn around and do it again for interstate you're going to most likely be paying well over 1500 in plates twice. Something to consider.

I am not sure. In fact, I don't know if I will get a copy of the title since I am financing the truck and it has a lienholder. DAT agents help me set up my authority and state permits. They asked me for the title # bc the IRP office might need it to process the application and the title number is requested on one of the forms. I am confused. How do I know the title #? Below is the application form that ask for plate number and title number.

You don't have ANY title yet? Maybe try calling your IRP office back and get their manager on the phone. That person you spoke to earlier that was of no help doesn't sound qualified. You have a business to run and they're required to get you what you need. That includes pertinent information like this. Sorry, I can't help with info if you don't have a title yet. I've only registered when I've had a title in hand.
