About a 2000 lb rating..... i assume you know that, so what are you actually asking?

I mean if it is 38000 Rear, Whats the max weight that truck can have, 80000 or less?
-
Depends on the number of axles on the trailer....
-
2 axle

A 40k rear is just heavier duty than a 38k rear. But there's also a rating for your suspension too. Are you trying to figure out what your truck and trailer is capable of?
singlescrewshaker Thanks this. -
Assuming its a typical American OTR setup you're not going to be legal for more than 34k on the drive axles anyways.
The higher the axle rating, the heavier the axle housings and internals are.singlescrewshaker Thanks this.
