If the bickering and name calling doesn't stop I can see three people being banned from participating in this thread.

If I am running local (my log truck) the DOT does not ask for anything, even when pulling an inspection.
I have been told by the now head DOT in the area, he was not the big dog when we had this discussion, but he told my I had to keep a record even if I was in my pickup going to the parts house if the parts had anything to do with the truck. I mentioned that just may be hard to prove. lol

Yep The rules pasted above are fairly clear. Gotta record on duty and off duty time. If driver goes off duty during the day who will know that but the driver? The boss has to keep those records for his audit

They simply know that there's no fish in that particular form for local trucks

I got the bang, bang on the door this morning, parked in a legal spot, in a rest area in PA...The officer wanted to pull in truckers for the scale and he wanted that first spot of the lot to do so. Not only was I jolted awake after driving late but the *expletive* wasn’t even conciliatory about it. Just a gruff, “you got to move” and even walked off to the building shaking his head like I was apparently supposed to know he was going to be there in the morning. I’ll let it go eventually but I’m still peeved at having my sleep disturbed. The rest of the lot was WIDE OPEN save one truck about 3/4’s the way down. I read today an article from 2018 that officers aren’t supposed to bother drivers in their bunks, in sleeper status or off-duty, unless they are illegally parked.—which I wasn’t. F*ckface. grrr...still mad and tired about this 8 hrs later. I’ll get over it.

I had something similar happen to me in WV at the bluestone travel plaza on I-77 two weeks ago. Although I was parked on the soft gravel on the side of the back lot I awoke to a loud knock. Turns out they were about to start random inspections and I was parked in the way.

They were nice enough to set everything up and then tell me to move. I just used PC and moved into a spot at 9am. Very friendly officers in WV.

This is just wrong. I was parked at a scale parking lot in Louisiana taking a nap on my 30 min break a couple of years ago. I hadn't had much sleep because the night before I had a hell of a time finding somewhere to park since I got my load late in Alabama. A DOT officer banged on my door and asked me what I was doing . I said taking a nap. He said get out of here and go park somewhere else up the road. There were several empty parking spaces and I still don't understand what the hell that was about. Haven't parked at a scale since and never will again. Only reason I parked there was because I was exhausted. Guy should be ashamed of himself..

Some states don't let you park at scales. Some do. I don't think the scale would be a good example when talking about rest areas they might try to commandeer for an impromptu inspection station.
