I need to repower my engine because of the CARB regulation and am looking for company/vendor that can do it. It is a 2004 Freighliner Columbia with a Mercedes engine switch to Cummins 12 valve or Detriot DD 13. I am having trouble finding someone in the Southern California area that will do the repower and I have until the end of the year before I am non compliant.
Help with engine repower

Repower will cost you way more than buying a compliant truck.. between engine and dpf def systems and wiring I’d be surprised if you could do it for less than 50 k
tommymonza, alds and Diesel Dave Thank this. -
Dude, many of us have stated in your other thread that a 12 valve Cummins WILL NOT WORK!
Its a 5.9L engine. It is grossly inadequate for anything above a 1 ton pickup truck.God prefers Diesels and Roberts450 Thank this. -
Seriously, that repower will cost you more than that truck is worth. And you need to research the motors that you are talking about.

Who built your engine? Not sure if any of the shops here in Corpus are any good or if I need to take mine out of town.God prefers Diesels Thanks this. -
As long as you have a rocker that can handle that engine, they're easy to build. And extra set of hands to help set the crank and head would be nice, but you can put a 12 valve together in eight hours by yourself. Couple days if it's your first time.
Here's one of my runs back when it had a single turbo and 359hp/831tq. Truck has a W/T grille, because I couldn't fit the Dodge intercooler with the Silverado grille and headlights. I almost blew an intercooler boot clear in half right before the 1/8th. I was doing 79mph at the 1/8th, and finished the run at 71mph. Still beat the truck next to me by 2.5 seconds. The exhaust pointing up is just for dragstrip purposes. Otherwise the black smoke "smokes" the starting lasers and screws up everyone's times on the timesheet.
I can't believe it's already been ten years. *sniffle

That thing scoots pretty good. It's a shame you couldn't stay in it all the way, but that's what happens when something breaks.
God prefers Diesels Thanks this.
