I'll expose my age by writing this BUT using the Tach-O-Graph was always a lot of fun.
"Re-working" the carbon paper impregnated paper disk was considered an "Essential" Driver skill....

I have to add on to the OPs complaint. I have had 3 RM gps' in my truck. Each one has failed the exact same way, suddenly stops turning on. It's like a timer goes off after x amount of miles and it shuts the unit down.

I tried sending them in to RM to have them fixed. They have the worst customer no-service in the world. Refused to send me the repair address and constantly asking for more info. I finally told them to either send me the address or lose my business altogether.

    Now I have a Garmin.

I hope this post creates enough of a dent in their sales they start taking customer service more seriously.

    HahHahaha!

nah driver. You’re MANDATED to buy these #### things. Until someone takes them to court for some sort of liability, they’re just gonna keep cranking out junk and taking our money.

Although I did speak with a Diesel Bear at a recent inspection and he did say a few have been pulled off the market. Didn’t say who though.

I've been wrassling with JJ Keller again at the current company. JJK and RM were both very successful at publishing in their particular fields, but have no track record with software.

I think this is is what is biting experienced company owners right now. If you're going to use software, buy it from a software company and not a publishing company.

I’m at the whim of what the boss buys. If we go to something else? It’s their call.

I’ve cracked my books open for officers 3 times in 12 years, and it’s entirety possible I could go 3-5 years with no logs at all.

    But rules,,,

If your ELD malfunctions the regs require you to report it and switch to paper logs. You have a week on paper logs to get it fixed, then if it isn't fixed you have to stop driving until it is. Make sure you record any communications you have with your employer about it.

One spot of clarity here. If your ELD is still down after 8 days, the carrier can make an extension request so that the driver can continue driving on paper. The instruction link is here: ELD - Electronic Logging Devices

Happened to me with the JJKeller ELD. Suddenly it's two months later and I've been on duty without a break for a long time. Took them several days to straighten it out, but they got pretty close. Meanwhile, keep those loose-leafs handy.

I think that’s what concerns me more than anything else.

Some kid in a data center a thousand miles away hits the wrong key and your thousands of safe and properly logged miles are replaced with an erroneous log that shows you in violation for weeks.

I mean, even certified logs can be altered! What’s the point of certifying a document if it can be altered later? It’s like cutting the signature line off my tax refund and putting whatever amount I want in. I’m pretty sure that’s a crime.
