I'm a senior that wants to go back to work, hate retirement.
I've drove for Union companies and non union. I have over 12 years combination of OTR and reginal. Most experience is refer, car hauler, and some dry van. So what is the problem?
I let my CDL go a long time ago. My last OTR job was with a company called North Wind, and had a dedicated run from Gilroy Ca. to Boston. I was also their driver trainer.
I grew up in the maintenance end of trucking, father owned a truck and equipment business. I got off the road in 1982 and went back to working as a mechanic, and yes I'm an ASE certified truck master tech but I'm done with turning wrenches, too old for the heavy work.

Went down got my DOT physical, took and passed the California CDL along with doubles tripples endorsement and Hazmat endorsement.

Went to a local Truck driving school and told them I needed a driving test. No, they want me to take their entire course and the fee was outrageous.

I said all that looking for advice on how to get the road test and get back on the road. Oh, I'm 72 years old but in very good health.

    Would really appreciate some advice.

Beyond my skillset but just wondering if you can rent a truck to take the driving test or do you have to go through an accredited school?

That is a good idea, I will need a licensed driver to rent the truck and trailer and come with me to DMV but that should be fairly easy. I'm wondering how prospective employers will look at that?

Interesting read, seems like many struggle with the pre trip inspection, I have done hundreds of inspections. One of the things that I find amusing is DMV wants you to turn on you 4 way flashers, inspect all lights, but then they also want you to individually check your turn signals, they are on the same circuit and use the same flasher unit, but I know must do it the way they want it.

Do you mean you passed the permit test, and you're looking to now do the behind-the-wheel test?

Look in Craigslist or Google Maps of the area you are in. There are many "Trucking Schools" that are a 3 day or less course, the instructors and the school are not accredited, but they will supply the vehicle, make sure you have the test down, and meet you at DMV for the test.

The entire point of my post was to point you to a 3 day driving school that might allow you to test. Jiffy's Truck School | California CDL Truck School
