I get paid $30 per pickup. Each pickup averages about 40 minutes.

I dont get detention pay. In my case I rarely need it. Per our SOP we have with our customer, if they arent pushing boxes out by 2 hours after appointment time, we leave.

But if its the last pickup of the day, we will usually wait around however long they need.

It would depend on what your agreement with your employer is. Some employers pay you right from the start of a pickup, some make you wait 2 hours, some have a flat rate. It all depends.

I hate sitting around, but I don't care how long they take. I get paid for the hours I work, and sitting around waiting on a shipper is work. If the places we haul for don't get me loaded within an hour, they're paying demurrage for me and the truck.

I remember Con-Way would make us sit 3 hours for free before we got the minimum wage sent back to us or something close. They eventually lowered it to two but decreased the pay even more.
