How to be a successful owner operator-
1) Start with almost no money.
1a) Have a large amount of debt already.
2) Have little to no knowledge of trucks.
3) Have no mechanical knowledge.
4) Lease or buy a new truck for $4,000 month for 6 years.
5) Spend all the money you do make. "I never had to save money before."
6) Don't worry about taxes.

From what I read he was screwed before he started. All the signs are there.
I would think a bankruptcy would have been a better choice for him although I think most people who do a bankruptcy shouldn’t be able to do so. If they dig there own hole why should they be able to dump that on all of society?
Someone I know and no longer associate with. Became an o/o years ago when most made money. Liked his chrome. Went bankrupt. Then he and his wife started collecting disability about 11 years ago. $1000 per month each. He works for cash only. No 1099. No nada. Greenbacks only. Just filed bankruptcy again to wipe out $28k in credit card debt. Pure bs imo.
Sorry. Off topic. Had to vent.InTooDeep, truckdriver31 and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -

I thought it was the guys coming out the oilfields with plans of buying 10 trucks and becoming wealthy beyond all belief. Those the same guys that tell us we are just being negative and they have it all figured out . Alot of good entertainment comes out of these threads.

Different game than it was ten years ago. Some have it figured out but many don't. A good deal on a used emissions truck can put you in bankruptcy faster than a loose wife. Just hope dude is back home and ok. Risky business.WannaGoTrucks2016, JolliRoger, nikmirbre and 6 others Thank this. -
There’s only two ways to do it now days in my opinion. Buy old pre emissions and know how to wrench, or brand new with big warranty and flip it every 4 years.
truckdriver31 Thanks this.
