    Howdy All,

Please let me start this post off by stating for the record that "I" am an electrical/electronic IDIOT.

The Radio/CD player in my truck has apparently died, I'd like to replace it, its easy to remove and I have done so, my question is this; do all replacement radios/CD players have the SAME wiring harness plug in connections or does one have to figure out how to splice the new unit into the old stock wiring?

Thanks for any information yu can share.

Since you say you are electronically challenged I suggest you take a picture of your power plug in the truck that plugs in to the radio. Go to Best Buy or any other full service radio shop. They should be able to sell you an adapter that will wire to your new stereos power plug. Then you can plug it in to your truck without cutting any wires. They will probably wire the adapter to your new plug for a small fee since you admitted that you are not skilled at this. It is really easy to do if you know what you are doing. All of this is available online cheap if you know someone who can correctly connect the adapter and your new power plug.

    Howdy Banker,

Thanks for your reply, it all makes sense. When it comes to ANYTHING electrical or electron, I learned decades ago that it way cheaper for me to pay someone who knows what they are doing then to pay them to fix my screw up after I have burnt the truck down.

Now what if the radio was ripped out of the truck and you don’t have a wiring diagram and all the colors have faded out on the wires. Can a radio shop still hell help with a harness I have an 01 379

    Howdy Team No Sleep,

I bought my new radio/CD player from a shop that specializes in custom installs, he set me up with a plug and play wire harness, everything just plugged together, EASY even I could do it without burning the truck up. $27.00 for the harness, well worth it. In your case with ripped up or out wires it'll cost some money but find a shop that does this type of work and pay them to do it, easier and if your as electrically challenged as I am WAY cheaper in the long run rather then trying to do it yourself.

I just got a new head unit for my 379

It's not complicated to hook up at all. Most of the wires coming out of the head unit won't be used unless you have a higher end system with separate amps. If you want to get fancy you can wire up the dimmer wire to the headlight switch

Three wires to power the unit (+,-, and one to tell the unit when the key is on) then the speaker outputs
