The one time kids are supposed to wear masks, and someone comes up with a suggestion like this....

Saw one article about using a length of 2" PVC pipe tied to the handrails of the porch steps as a shute to deliver candy to the Trick or Treater's sacks.

There have been less kids on Halloween every year. Our town is small @500 pop, but their still used to be a lot of kids coming around. But every year lately has been less and last year we had one kid. Don't see much points in buying candy this year, but wife probably will just in case.

I remember, in my day, we got some wooden barrels the local stores threw out. The barrels came to the stores, full of nails, that were sold by the pound.
We took the empty barrels and from those built a downhill race car. Then we'd find a steep hill and spend the day racing each other. No parents helped us, like in the photo, we did it on our own.

Sometimes we'd get all the old bicycles we could find and make them into one bicycle, using 3 or 4 bicycles, and off we'd go for the day. Unlike this bicycle in the photo, we'd only remove the front wheel of each bicycle and hook the steering portion to the axle to the rear axle of the next bicycle. One time we hooked that multiple bicycle to my motor scooter and off we went roaring down the road.

1st one we got a counter and there was 250 kids come by. 2nd was raining and cold, but still about 200 came by. While we obviously expect less this year we are still going to get enough for 200 at least.Dale thompson Thanks this. -
I disagree with kids not getting outside as much. Pick any day this summer and the local skate park has been packed with kids on skateboards, scooters and roller blades.

Where I grew up there was a sort of surge and swell based on demographics. When me and my friends were young it seemed like there were plenty of us. When I hit College, mom would tell me she just didn’t see them much anymore. Then when I came back from college some of the young parents that had moved into the neighborhood as my older neighbors died or moved into retirement homes started bringing kids around.
I guess when you spend 30 years in the same place you look on the long term.
I didn’t know what to expect when I became a parent. I’d heard all the things about kids don’t go outside and nobody does anything anymore. And my current neighborhood seemed to fit the mold. When Halloween came around and he was a toddler I’d go to “sponsored events” like the mall or the school, but when he got to be a little older I found that the immediately adjacent neighborhood between my house and his school was a “target rich environment” half the school district walked those streets. Kindergarten to HS. I was so happy he could have the kind of Halloween we used to have way back in the day.
,,,, and then he discovered Minecraft. Sheesh!Trucker61016 Thanks this.
