Question on permitted speeds

    Permits and state provisions often state a max permitted speed limit for OD loads. Typically, it's somewhere around 55 mph. I often see OD drivers going the posted speed limit or much faster than the posted. My question is whether or not these rules are enforced and should I worry too much about going 60 in IL, where the permits & provisions say any overwidth loads are restricted to 5 mph above the minimum posted, which is about 45 mph on most IL interstates?

    Guess it depends on how spendy your permit was...get a $1000 permit pulled plus a ticket plus all the CSA hit and it might not be worth it to speed while permitted.

    Ca you do it, sure and get away with it probably but it will hurt if they choose to enforce ....

    I know Missouri is 10 under posted speed limit, but you only see the super loads doing it here around kc. Everyone else hauling OD loads will blow your doors off.

    Vermont, 50mph permit loads. Per coversation with DMV officer, they don't enforce speed restriction but use it to stop and check everything else.

    Missouri did away with the 10 under several years ago,Illinois has many speed rules, up to 10 wide can do speed limit down to 50 for super loads

    That’s not what the provision sheet in Illinois says.
    SPEED: Maximum speed shall be 5 m.p.h. below the posted speed limit, EXCEPT when otherwise specified in the permit. Legal weight, legal height movements up to and including 10 feet wide are allowed to travel at the legal maximum speed limit.

    At 15’11” wide we often have this restriction:
    The maximum speed, except on highways with a minimum posted speed, in which case the speed shall not be more than 5 m.p.h. above the minimum posting, shall be 35 m.p.h.
