    Hey all.

I'm new to trucking and the CDL life. I plan on exiting the repossession industry and looking to do some serious CDL work. The industry is sort of dried up with this whole covid19 situation. I'm used to doing about 300 - 400 miles per night in a tow truck on a 10-12 hr shift. Yes, a tow truck is nothing like an 18 wheeler, but my point is that I already like driving and I can handle long hours.

Anyway, I have my CDL A permit and tanker endorsement. I've been reading on this forum over the last week and read plenty of valuable information, but I'm looking for some help point me in the right direction.

Is there anyone on this forum that lives in PA, DE, MD, or NJ area that has gone with one of the mega carriers? Seems like 90% of the people on the forum are from the west coast or the mid-west. I'm sure their home-time is probably a little different because it seems like all of the terminals are on the side of the US. I'm assuming once you're scheduled for hometime, you will need to travel from the terminal to your home. That would take me a whole day just to do that if I went with a company with terminals far from DE.

Is there a thread that compares the starting pay rates for some of these mega carriers?

Anyone heard of Performance Food Group? There is a hub out of Elkton, MD and they have a new CDL training program. I read a thread on here about someone's diary while working at PFG but he didn't explain how they pay. I've seen a ton of people say food service is not the way to go when it comes to a fresh start with a CDL.

Ultimately, I know your experience comes down to what you make of it, but I am trying to make the best decision possible between carriers and possibly doing local food service. I'm open to any suggestions and advice. I'm not afraid of hard work and I'm mainly looking for pay and hometime.

Most companies let you take the truck home when you're on home time.
I just posted some info on another thread. Here's the info. Click on "cdl school" and the school information is there.

I saw this building popup recently as I was in the area. You need a CDL before you can even apply. I only have a permit

That company hires new cdl school grads.
    Same with DOT.
If you can't swing a private cdl school, then Magnum is a good choice.

Gotcha. I'd have to go to CDL school then. I'll look into it. I'd prefer to be trained at the company so I don't have to pay out of pocket.

Regardless, thank you for the help.:)

    OK, then.
Magnum is good for refrigerated trucking. Lots of long runs out west.
