I 19 living in cali and im trying to get my cdl in a couple of weeks im also starting my hotshot buisness should i keep going with my cdl process or wait. I have a ram 3500 srw and a big tex 40 trailer gooseneck. my concern is that since i dont have a cdl i wont be able to move my gooseneck with my class c, maybe if i derate the trailer to 10000lbs with the manufacture i dont know if it will be worth it

It's not the trailer weight it's the combined weight rating. CA requires you to have a CDL if the trailer being towed is over 10k.. The problem is that trailer is gonna weigh at least 6,5k lbs on it's own but probably more. So now you have 3,5k of payload ability.. That's not gonna work. You need the CDL because Cali has that screwed up 10k rule on the trailer.

If it was just the normal 26k rule like everywhere else you could simply derate the trailer so the truck + trailer rating was under 26k.. but the 10k thing makes it impossible with CA.

    Wait for the CDL..
