How about the same percentage the driver get of the load. That way it's a simple thing to keep track of.

I drive company truck and get set rate per mile for all miles. I get detention pay of $20 per after 2 hours. I don't have the opportunity to make more if the load pays more. I don't worry about detention pay because my trucking company pays me, even if they don't get paid detention. I think my company get $75 per hour when they can bill the customer. They said they break even on it. They don't really make money. We also do lots of drop and hook. If they have customer that is always taking longer then 2 hours to load or unload. They try and put drop trailer at customer. They run regional so that more possible for them.

going with what was there. if all the detention pay is $25.00, the owner should get some sort of compensation. it's the owner that has to pay the bills, not the driver.

kemosabi says pay $20 per hour, i'd say maybe $15.00.

well, i don't believe there is any industry standard for this. so what ever the driver gets, it's still some extra he was not planning on.

some extra is better than NO extra.

this is more on you than the driver. He's losing miles/revenue due to your load-picking. If you need 10% for making a mistake just be sure to extend the same to the driver when he or she messes up.

If you want to keep your driver then they should get $25 an hour. If you take a loss that’s on you. Pick better loads, make better choices.

You don't need to haul for xpo. Again without telling them what your detention is ,if they won't agree don't haul their freight ,,say no to cheap freight

The driver should know before he accepts the job what compensation to expect for detention. If he gets half of the $25 he will know exactly what little value he is to company.

Your driver should get every bit of that $25. $75 should go to you. Oh, wait...you let XPO tell you how much they're going to pay. Do you walk into McDonald's and tell them how much you're going to pay for your meal? Let XPO's trash rot next time. This is exactly why there's a driver "shortage". After a while drivers get tired of not getting fair compensation for their work. Class A drivers should be getting a minimum of $25/hr.
