Well there’s always a plus side! Kind of like that song, take a trip and never leave the farm! I never know when I get a seizure, I have stood at the checkout at the store and have somebody wake me up! As I said I’ve learned to adjust I’ll take this with me to my grave.
Rideandrepair and nikmirbre Thank this. -

Same here, had an accident, got audited by DOT, as a result. Lawyer got the careless reduced to equipment violation. No points, License good. I’m sure CSA, and God knows what else was affected. Safety rating took a hit, for 30 mos. Got Inspected constantly, thought it would never end. It all added up to a bunch of Stress. Hardly worth going through.

I honestly don’t know the answer, but for future applications, I personally would acknowledge that I was involved in a major accident. But not charged with it as a preventable accident, since you weren’t convicted of anything. That’s that. Let them figure the rest, based on records available. They’re going to decide, based on their own guidelines anyway.

Thank you all for your responses. I will consider what was said in them.

When a State or Local MCSAP/CVSA/DOT cop writes an inspection report that also contains a ticket the data goes to different places. The inspection report goes to the FMCSA and that information gets added to the Authority Holders CSA score and the driver gets dinged too. The ticket gets handled by the courts and should get reported to the CDLIS so the ticket/accident information can be added to the driver's MVR.
Just to recap. When all is said and done. In the case of an accident in a CDL required CMV, in all likelihood, there will be an insurance record somewhere. IF an inspection is done, that report will be in the CSA database. IF a ticket is issued that information will be a part of the inspection, BUT the actual driver's record will be handled through the CDLIS.
This is the way this works as I understand it. If I am wrong I am sure someone will correct me.rachi Thanks this. -
While it is getting rarer, there are still some times when states do not send the accident on to the FMCSA.
New Jersey puts any reported accident on everyone's MVR but other states not so much.
I often see an accident mentioned on an application but not on the MVR I receive. I don't keep track here but at my last carrier less than 50% of our reported accidents showed up on the SMS reports. Year after year I had 10 - 12 police reports in the binder and only 4 or 5 on, at that time, safe-stat.
My auditor noticed I had 'em all and poured over them all to determine our real accident frequency per million miles. Actually came out lower than she first figured....she had me Data Q one too.Last edited: Oct 7, 2020
