Has anybody gotten a hemorrhoidectomy and then continued to drive a truck for a living?

That's a sore subject but no mine weren't that bad. Just swelling and painful. Rutin reduced the swelling. This was 30 yrs ago from driving log trucks off road. Good luck.

I had the surgery yrs ago ,(at age 56 or so),and it was the best thing I ever did. I just should not have waited so long.

mine were REAL bad.the Dr said they were the worst he'd seen in 40 yrs. I worked construction and then started my driving career loading trucks by hand and then driving. very heavy lifting was involved.

the surgery was painless, BUT the next BM will be like giving birth to a hippo. lol. be a wuss and take the pills!!

after I was healed up, took the rest of the week off, I went on to drive for another 10 yrs OTR and retired.

The donut you use after the surgery could be used in the truck. Help keep sitting long hours causing issues

oh, and yes , I have a few new ones from not listening to the DR's and lifting real heavy crap once in a while.

and as " Wasted Thyme," said the donut pillow or tube does help.

Ok, so yours must've been like mine then, Grade 3 or Grade 4 hemorrhoids. This is very encouraging to hear, that you only took a week off and were able to drive another 10 years OTR!!

So with the few new hemorrhoids that you got after your hemorrhoidectomy, did they ever become really bad again? Like Grade 3 prolapsing after every bowel movement or Grade 4 where they couldn't be put back in, even with a finger? Or were they just small Grade 1's or Grade 2's, where you had a little bit of blood after some bowel movements but not as bad as Grade 3's or Grade 4's?

I guess I'm asking with the few new ones you got after your surgery, were the hems fixable with OTC type of medicines or basic prescriptions? You never had to do the surgery again, right?

the new ones don't bother me much at all. no pain ,minor itching or blood spots, once in a great while. if one does pop out ,it's minor and recedes on its own.

I don't remember the numbering system.

when I went back to driving, it wasn't like they were never there, but it was doable. I don't remember it being a horrible time.

my advise is to not wait, they only get worse.

I had an advantage ,the transportation manager at my terminal/warehouse was a driver also and had the surgery himself. he understood.

My brother-in-law had this surgery years ago and, HE IS NOT A DRIVER, but he is a laborer and was able to return to those very physical, laborious, straining functions at 100%.

From what I remember he stayed in hospital for a couple days (maybe 2), and this was close to 20 years ago, so I'm sure the recovery will likely be much enhanced now.

Since something physical triggered your condition, I would think that you're not anatomically susceptible to reoccurrence just because of the mere physicality of driving.
I've driven for 32 years and I don't have them.. and I sit in that seat like a stone.
If you're in decent physical condition then I'd think that lessens complications even more.
    Best of luck to you.

I drove tractor trailers from 1968 until 2008. Had hemorrhoid surgery in 1993 and took a week off. The surgeon removed one internal and two external, and sliced the #### in two places because I had mentioned retention. I do not remember pain, but did need a catheter during the night after surgery due to trauma in the area. The urologist has mentioned hemorrhoids during the digital prostrate exam, but they are not bothering me.
Driving again after six weeks recovery from hernia repairs was worse. My first load after surgery was a load of refrigerators from Grand Rapids to St. Louis. I felt every bump in the road. The top layer of refrigerators laying flat on the upright ones had to dragged back and set gently on the floor. One of those places where the driver must help. A few days later, back in Grand Rapids, I went to the company doctor to check my hernia repairs.

Salad bars are still closed everywhere I have been. Rough times for roids.
