Hello everyone! Im posting it on behalf of my old friend who is not very tech savvy. Can anyone be kind enough to share his/her experience or advise about increasing hp on a Volvo Semi? Friend's semi is 670, 455 hp, 3.36 rears with 600000 miles. Bought at 510000 miles. So far complete Def work, sensors, injectors, injector cups, alignment, steer axle kingpins done. Fitted with new tires, new shockers, new air bags but doesn't pull easy from a standstill or on small uphills even. Gives good mileage only if driven at 60-62 miles/hr. Consumes much more fuel if driven at 65. He hauls 72000-79000 lb.
Would appreciate if anyone could guide and advice .
Thank you very much for your time and attention.

Nothing is going “to pull” with that rear ratio. Your buddy bought a flat land reefer hauler for heavy work.

Also, what engine?
If it’s the 13 more horses won’t do anything but accelerate wear to engine and transmission.
If it’s the 16 or ISX it may have some sort of fleet programming. The engine isn’t the limitation, though. It’s the rear ratio.Stillastudent Thanks this. -
What was the rated vs. actual horsepower when it was on the dyno?

Volvo dealer can increase hp with software, nothing mechanical. They are the only ones that can do it so far as I know amd will only increase it to what they will warranty. For my 15 780 (d13) that was 425 to 500. It was a fleet truck for 500k at 425.
Cost me about a grand.Dave_in_AZ, Stillastudent and Brettj3876 Thank this. -

455hp sounds like an XE package. Is the truck I-shift?
