OK to leave trailer brake applied without a trailer?

Couldn't you hook your red airline to the blue gladhand the trailer? Then releasing the trailer brakes would actually be applying the service brakes. Right?

I like how you're trying to get around their idling rules, but you're still concerned with not damaging their equipment. That's actually a good thing. I don't blame you one bit for trying not to roast in the Summer.

 

What if you hooked your airlines to each other? What would that do?

 

Just buy a red glad hand and a plug fitting for it to cap it off. Do not let the compressor run for hours on end. It is not designed for that.

 

You can get one of those 50 foot air up hoses from the truck stop for $20 bucks on your reward points and plug it into your red air line and charge it up. The bonus would be that once you unplug the red air line, your trailer brakes will set automatically and you can fool the compressor that it still needs to supply air, therefore defeating the anti-idle shutdown.

As an added precaution along with wheel chocks while the tractor brakes are released, maybe crank down your trailer landing gear pretty tight to help hold the unit in place.

 

Maybe a better job would be the answer to all afflictions?
