We've had younger guys quit after 2 days.

I also quit after 4 days. Which turned in to 4 1/2 years and counting.

Most states have "at will" conditions that mean no notice is necessary to quit or get fired. FYI. I have worked at many co's over the years and never been fired. But I have quit in many different ways. I quit Arrow trucking under a load with direct deposit and left the truck at their yard which was closed at night. I quit after direct dep was put on card and emptied it out at midnight so they couldn't freeze it. I left a note on the windshield that I quit.

I quit FFE the 2nd time under what I thought was not very desireable conditions and they sent a co recruiter to ask me back 8 months later. He said he was given names of excellant former drivers to try to come back to FFE ! And I actually did go back for a 3rd time.

I also put in my notice for a small co and the co owner called the co I was going to with me sitting in his office, and talked with the new co's owner trying to pick his brain and figure out why I was quitting his co for the other co.

The only company I ever quit driving for, I came in after a days work, called the supervisor & asked if I could see him. He said, well, its Friday & I just left about 10 minutes ago. I said, well, I need you to come back to the yard. I need to speak with you. After some huffing & puffing he came back. I handed him my letter of resignation, keys, credit card etc & told him he needed to find another driver for tomorrow (Saturday). I'm out of hours. Adios amigo. Saranada, bye bye and some of those other languages.

So why I'd I leave? Always out over 70 most of the time in 5 days. This week, I was going to be out of hours about mid morning Friday, finish out the day of about 6 more hours & they still wanted us to run from north Louisiana to Chicago & back Saturday & Sunday. Then run our regular 5 day week.
Sorry Charlie, I didn't sign on for that.

    Update:
Cleaned out truck, went in to turn in keys etc. decided to do it face to face. Mentioned family health issues (which is not a lie, but only part of reason for leaving) was asked why I couldn’t give a two week notice. Got talked into agreeing to a two week notice to be eligible for rehire and or a good recommendation. Told I had ten days that I could change my mind. Lol
So I’m running now under two week notice.
I told my manager I was reluctant to provide a two week notice, having heard horror stories of drivers being driven as far away from home or the terminal as possible and then fired on the spot and left to find their own way back.

I was assured that would not happen. I told him if it did, I would sue. Lol

I figure it’s worth this recommendation they promise. Time will tell if I was their fool one last time....

I left my last job with a 2 week notice but it was a small outfit and a man of his word. I still drive some off and on if he has something that works with my schedule.

The last time I tried to do the proper thing and give a written two weeks notice, the company tried to keep me on the road past the two weeks. It got down to me having to force the issue. I took pictures when I emptied out the truck, then sent them to the company as a pdf file.

I've always believed in proper business etiquette, but have changed my mind since then. As long as the truck is cleaned out and in their possession, I'm good. They'll have someone in the truck tomorrow. Jamming a driver out on the road is poor form.

Makes me wish there was a DAC for employers. "Would not go back to work for"

My last company tried to do that. When I had an interview.

Somehow he always knew when I wanted to interview for a job and kept me out instead of coming home. When I finally succeeded. I was gone. No 2 weeks.
