I'm in the northeast, New England to be specific. New Hampshire for example, does NOT accept electronic copies of permits, because page #5 of 6 (yup, a $6.00 permit with 5 pages of fluff,) has a checklist/inspection report as well as a required signature and a sort of quiz on it that must be filled in by driver and kept in vehicle during move. I have more trouble trying to get my permits that are on my phone converted to paper. No truck stops these days around here (or anywhere,) will allow me to email the permit to them to have it printed out anymore. I usually look for a Staples, or try to get it done at a shipper or someplace that will help me out.
Yeah, I know...get a printer in the truck. I've had a few. They bounce around back there, the ink freezes, they start acting up...I never had a lick of luck with them so far. If someone has the answer to that dilemma, I'm all ears. I'm sure I'll get the best education I ever had in the last 40 years right here, right now...nikmirbre Thanks this. -
unfortunately they don’t make that model anymore. It’s been dropped, bounced off the dash, and had random plastic pieces fall out of the inside. It still prints just fine.
I don’t know how people do long haul oversize loads without a printer.IH Truck Guy, OldW900AOwner and Landincoldfire Thank this. -
OldW900AOwner Thanks this.

I brought an oversized load down Fromm Massachusetts last week, do any of the states north east of Pennsylvania accept electronic permits?

HP makes a direct wireless printer (model 200 or 250) that will run on battery or on charge cord
it is reasonably fast to print and weights about 5 lbs - boots quickly - no fuss at all.
I carry this into the hotel(in a cloth Walmart bag with a ream of paperwork) with me to do paperwork for 3 trucks
it was less than $300 - you can connect direct from your iPhone or IPad. Very likely works with android as well but I don’t use any of that crap -
I use a Canon Pixma IP110 printer. It's been riding on the shelf in my truck for 5 years now. I've had it go flying across the cab a few times in rough job sites and truck stops and a few hard brakes. Still works as good as the day I bought it. Ink has never frozen on me. Never remove it from the truck even in the dead of winter.
Used a Canon Pixma IP100 before that for a few years. Only reason I switched is the IP110 has built in WIFI so I can print from my phone/tablet. The IP100 has been treated just as poorly as the 110 and it still works.
Looks like it's been replaced by the Canon Pixma TR150 now. I'm sure it's just as reliable.
These are all compact travel printers so they are much smaller than a standard desktop printer and seem to be built much better as well.
We tried running standard cheap desktop inkjets in some of the other trucks and most of them broke within a few months of just riding around in the trucks. Couldn't handle the vibrations and bouncing I guess.OldW900AOwner and cke Thank this. -
All good stuff, thanks for the input. I'll look into this. I suffer every time I need something printed out on the road these days. If there's not a Staples in sight, it's tough without a printer.
