I would like this to be a deserve based system. Getting stripes, if you will. I'd like to think that becoming o/o and then obtaining own authority is a process, personal evolution...crowning of a long time professional efforts and experience. Someone is a journeyman first, then approaches masterhood...I wish. I wish.
Not something that can be bought by a 2nd mortgage or by cashing IRA account.
Just speaking my mind...ignore me if you want.

There are weirdos in all lines of work, doesn't matter if they're a cop, doctor, cashier, or trucker. How they make it through life is a mystery. It's best to have a heart to heart talk with him first since at least he's keeping the truck moving, but let him know things need to change and quick. Have a back up plan.

I say to these wannabees and newbies, go for it. If your so smart that you can jump into the business without knowledge or experience, then please go for it and show the rest how it should be done.
A poster here very recently , in another thread, was asking such questions . When membership told him things he didn't want to hear, he got defensive. So I very sarcastically gave him the advice I gave in the in the first paragraph, only worded differently. Members bashed my teeth in.
Opinions vary, depending on which way the wind is blowing, which side of the fence etc...
@TallJoe, not much psychiatric help or relief for you. Best of luck getting this mess out of your head? I can see where you may require years of counseling and therapy?Last edited: Oct 20, 2020

Cut him loose immediately. These types will only get worse with time.
It took me a few years and much stress and heart palpitations to figure out that these people are not worth your time.
You are terrible at hiring people and that is normal. You over time will develop a 6th sense and be able to see through the bs. However, all good lessons are hard learnt.
Don’t give up, just set your standards higher and believe 20% of what you hear. If someone says unprompted... I don’t drink, I don’t chase women, and I don’t so drugs... it means they do all three!
Real deal drivers don’t have to talk a big game. It’s the shysters who do.Badmon, 86scotty, Dale thompson and 1 other person Thank this. -
I'll probably never get an answer to it but I'm really curious how many trucks the original poster has, if he pays on a W2 or 1099, if his truck runs every day, does he run exclusively for Amazon, how long his driver was unemployed when he hired him, how much experience the driver actually has, how much he pays him including how much for breakdowns and detention and tonu, and what his truck payments and insurance payment and yearly maintenance costs are if if he's gotten that far.
TallJoe and Midwest Trucker Thank this. -

Why am I driving? All I need to do is buy a truck and then pick from the hundreds of drivers who want to work their ### off for me?
I am with OP, I dont want to hassle with keeping track of what the truck is doing. I mean I bought the truck so my part is done.
Is there some infomercial or something that is selling this idea? Where are these people coming from?86scotty, Dale thompson, brgrcru and 2 others Thank this. -
What I mean by making your life harder is these companies start up, hire a driver at basement wages which in turn makes it harder for the good drivers to get paid more. And it applies to both company drivers and O/O's as this type of company lowers the rates across the board. After all, why should a shipper pay $3 a mile when they can get someone to pull it for $1 a mile.Dale thompson, TallJoe and Dino soar Thank this.
