Tampa Tri Axel Owner Operators????

    Anyone please! We are currently in Pennsylvania and are seriously considering making the move to Tampa. My husband owns his own truck (tri axel) and we were doing just fine until Covid hit. Now, he is only working 1 day a week and it's just not enough. With winter fast approaching, it's not going to get better any time soon. We have been in touch with a few of the trucking companies down there and they say there is work. We both love Florida but relocating is a huge decision. Are there any tri axel owner operators in the Tampa area that could give us any incite on how things are down there? Is there money to be made? Thank you in advance for your time.

    Is he a new owner operator?

    I live in Pennsylvania and all the triaxle guys are crazy busy where I'm at.

    Although we are getting to the time of year now where they will start knocking off the newer trucks.

    I'm sure someone from Florida will answer you but Florida in general from what I understand is just very low rates in all kinds of trucking.

    I don't know if the weather helps any with winter work there.

    Sorry I don't have any better advice or information.

    I think Las Vegas is still in the building craze but I don't know what happens with them over the winter either and I don't know that they use tri axle dump trucks out there.

    Las Vegas doesn't have an ocean ;P New-ish he has had his truck for almost two years but this time last year it was fine. Slower than summer, but still 2-3 days per week.

    Is there really need to relocate? Can’t hubby drive down there and work for a month or two to see if it’s all that it’s cracked up to be? If it is, great, Then you can decide to move or not. if it isn’t maybe things have settled down a little at home by then.

    I used to live in Tampa and all the trucks are Spanish speaking. If you can compete with them then you'll be fine. From my experience though the competition has driven the rates so low you'd be better off driving as an employee. Even as a company driver the pay is low as well. Florida is one of the worst places ever for truck drivers.
