I posted this in the International section but didn’t get any responses. I am looking at buying my first truck and a local KW dealer has a few 2016 International Prostars available with between 450-500k miles for about $30k. They all have Cummins ISX 425 and 10-speed trannies. I’ve read a ton about people hating on these trucks but it almost always has to do with the Maxxforce engines. I’m not looking for a top of the line truck. I’m not OTR, just local hauling containers for Walmart and only doing maybe 250 miles/day. I would also be deleting it immediately as I know that the vast majority of issues I’ve had and seen have been emissions related. I just would like to hear some thoughts on this. Thanks!

Unless they've had some emission system maintenance done I'd run away.

I saw this in the International section and didn’t respond - I didn’t think you were actually serious - and I apologize.

    Run away.

First of all, no more talk about deletion, okay? It's illegal and TTR doesn't condone discussion of it.
Secondly, wait for awhile while more drivers add to this thread. @blairandgretchen gave you some good advice based on experience and I'm sure others will as well.
Good luck with your truck buying.

Being that we can't speak of that thing on here, you'll have to read between the lines of my original post.

One thing I learned quickly about trucks - the initial price point bears little in the lifetime of the truck (or your business).

What you will spend on it and reliability will be crucial.

Are you looking to buy this cash?

Are you familiar with the pre purchase checks most recommend ?

I hear you, I’m just trying to find the line between reliability and affordability.
I will be putting a down payment but financing the majority. I’ve got about $40k after a down payment (depending on the price of the truck obviously) but I’d rather have a good savings account than pay cash for a truck. I know that I should have an oil analysis done and I would assume a blow by check as well but I am not a mechanic so any info would be helpful in this area.

    blairandgretchen Thanks this.
