One more Tarp thread... what and how many do you really carry daily?

I carry a set of 8 and 4 foot lumber tarps, for a total of 4 tarps....

Keep them stored in my trailer boxes along with enough padding to cover a full 48foot load.

 

I carry 4 machine tarps with 6 ft drops. 2 machine tarps with 2 ft drops ( why the company bothers with tarps that short is beyond me ) and a smoke tarp. The 4 with 6 ft drops rise on the nose of the trailer. The other 3 ride in a tarp box with my padding.

 

I carry a 4 ft and 8 ft set plus 1 smoke tarp. Theyre all in side boxes.

 

What are the dimesnions of your smoke tarp , do you know ? Im looking to get one so i dont have to throw my 4fters onthese insulation loads

 

Its 10 x 12. About the only thing i use it for is when 1 4 ft tarp is a foot or 2 short of covering a load. Ill throw it over the back end to keep from getting the other half of the tarp set out.

0, have not tarped a load in years, and pull flatbed., When I did , I had 8 foot drops and steel tarps.

 

The one place we do those insulation loads from doesnt require a tarp, but the water pipe we haul out of Siloam Springs requires a smoke tarp lol. The freakin inconsistencies in this industry kill me.

 

I have a 3 piece set of 8ft lumber tarps and a 16x16 "coil tarp" that I use as a smoke tarp. They are all stored in boxes on the trailer. I tarp per box. (I use the 3 and 4 ft tractor supply boxes for $256. I can't afford $900 boxes, and these fit on my frame rail.) I put my straps in one of the 4 footers, and padding and vee boards in the other. One 3 footer has my chains and binders with the smoke tarp in it.

I can't stand my 8 ft tarps. They are wayyyyyyy too long. Not even lumber loads are that tall anymore. 4-6 ft is max because of weight. My son and I taped the edges of the 8 footers to turn them into 4 ft tarps. If I ever had to, I could cut the tape and make it an 8 footer again. Too bulky in the box, too heavy, and too difficult to roll up alongside the load when you use them. My next set will be 4 footers.

The pic shows one of the 4 ft boxes with tape showing the center loading point for the trailer. I have since added boxes alongside it. The plastic box proved to be too easy to take for someone who apparently needed it more than me.
