I ended up winning an 08 Double Drop trailer from RItchie Brothers a couple of weeks ago. I picked it up for $6500. Kind of an instinct buy. Its in decent shape and so far it pulls really nice. I think these are commonly used to haul glass.

Its a 44 foot trailer with a 21 foot well (Neck doesn't detach). The upper and rear decks are 11-12 feet. Its nice because I can get it up my street and park at my house. My 53' step deck is too long to fit. I want a trailer that I can park at my house. Hoping to stay local right now and make it home most nights.

I need to invest some money in this trailer for tie downs. Maybe a rub rail and some stake pockets... trying to decide if I should keep it. I could also use my step deck ramps to load from the rear.

I'm in Colorado. With all the construction I'm hoping I can haul heavy equipment... Backhoes, boom lifts, telehandlers, wheel loaders. Theres also some work for hay. and occasionally I can find some extra tall loads that pay well.

Does anyone know what other items are hauled on a trailer like this? Do you think its a bad idea to try and make this trailer work? I know I'm limited with it being short and the double drops allow fewer loads than a standard step deck.

Did the trailer come with ramps and levelers?

Different subject...how do you put tire chains on that truck?

No I already own some ramps. I just have to weld on the pin attachments to this trailer.

LoL you can't run chains with those fenders.

No I haven’t. But I’ve seen it done with excavators.

You need to look under the floor to determine if you can sideload it.

If it were a former glass hauler, it would look like this, (minus the A-frame, but most glass doubles have raised frame rails off the deck that the A-frame mounts to)

This trailer doesn’t have many tie down points at all. Which makes me wonder what it was used for.

here is a picture of the deck up close. I noticed some broken glass on the trailer and wondered if that’s what it was used for

That is kinda how glass trailer ratchet strap bottom securements look except the smaller bar hook locations on the frame are a little small. They may have had removable A-frames on there, but usually those are bolted down. It does look like there are chain pull-outs for chain binders along the edge.

It had some sort off removeble structure fitted on a regular basis.
4 u shaped pieces welded on the outside with a support under them.
