Have a 2009 KW T800 driver side fuel tank is unused do to a crack, and has had the cross feed turned off and hoses removed and capped.
But the sending unit is still wired / causing a false reading. I unplugged the unit but then I got an empty reading even with the other tank full.
    How do I bypass this?

Does a 09 not have two gauges like a 10. If so just plug it back in and let the little yellow light flash on bottom of second gauge.

If you want a working gauge, the sending unit will have to be in the working tank. Otherwise, just leave it unplugged and keep track of your fuel burn.

Mike if he ran two wires from the empty tank to the sender on the other tank. All four wires on one sender do you thank would work without spending a lot of money? I do not know but do not see how that would damage anything to try?

Which tank is the sender in?

TBH, never saw a truck with two fuel gauges before.

Sounds like both. There are - were some trucks here like that with one gauge and two senders. I have seen others with duel gauges as cjb mentioned. Then the ones with duel senders and a single draw tank. They have an electric fuel pump above the bell housing. A computer monitors senders and turns the fuel pump on and off.
You are correct as usual that he should double check what he has before posting. The last 6 of the vin also gives some people the ability to help more.

The 1993 pete 379 I had and this 2001 I have now have 2. 1 guage on the dash with a switch for either left or right side. Other than these all other trucks I have experience with just 1 guage.

Depending how his sending units are wired, a shunt on the dead tank could give it a false full.

If the dead tank will not be repaired any time soon, the 2 sending units wires could be combined going to the live tank. ( Use real weatherproof connectors, not some crimp on crap ). Both gauges would then read the live tank & sending unit.

Okay ... so more info ...the truck is a 2009 T800 Kenworth quad axel dump truck. With the c13 cat , last 7 of vin R992628.
It has a 75gal on the driver's side and a 100gal on passenger side.
The driver's side is unused and has no hoses hooked up (they are capped off) and no sending unit only a over fill / expansion hose
When the main tank is full I'm lucky to read 5/8 full .
Tank seems to be correctly oriented and not rolled back.
Thinking the sending unit float gets hung up somehow??
