They are primarily for penny-pinching fleets and weight conscious bulk material haulers where every extra pound counts. For an owner-op spec truck no way.

I doubt many company trucks will be running those.

But they do look nice for bad weather.

That extra weight saved lets me scale 45,500 in my van with all this extra stuff in the Studio Sleeper like a fridge, air fryer, multiple 5 gallon bottles of water etc.

They may be cool for the road...but they suck for flatbed applications, though.

Super singles must be losing their flavour with some companies.

My father drives with the van division of a large company for almost 30 years.

The last couple trucks he had used super singles and he hated them.

His new 2020 company truck came with duals.

I wonder if the newer dual tires that promotes fuel savings etc are better?

    BS.
Our Michelin X one line energy D traction model SS tires outperformed our duals the first winter we tried them.

And Ground pressure is higher with SS tires in snow compared to traditional duals due to less overall tread width.

No it's mostly ignorant ##* drivers are the biggest problem... Incorrect inflation pressures (biggest problem)... Lack of inspection for pressure on pretrips and curbing abuse.. massive laziness and ignorance in the industry....and a lot of fleets are just trying to ignorant proof everything in sight because the drivers are utterly worthless anymore.

Going from steel you'll see 1,000lbs+ lighter on a trailer.... From aluminum it's 700-750 I've seen.
Why anyone even runs steel at all is completely retarded though... Heavy as hell and rust maintenance issues... With no real difference in strength.

Wrong, we sell capacity as a truckload carrier and all our units are running them now. We have the ability to run loads many other trucks can't...

Plus our winter traction has been better then the old duals, in addition to a noticeable improvement in ride smoothness.
