Having run wide single drives for close to 15 years, have not had the same experience as you.
Have run a few different brands, in general they all seemed very close in performance. Running primarily in the western 11, mostly off the interstates. Ice and snow are commonplace much of the winter. As for chains, no different than putting on a single, much better than having to put on a three railers.

I am not denying there are some technical/mechanical advantages however I stand by my assertion that practically zero owner operators spec’ing their own truck would go anywhere near these. (There are technical and mechanical disadvantages as well.)

Well said. l run TST Truck TPMS always keeping an eye on the pressure. A Love's tanker Yankee told me he blew a few. I asked if they had TPMS he said "nope". Well it figures!

Prime Inc.has TPMS for theirs also. If you spec out a lease truck they offer the option for duals but l believe it is about a $2,500 out of pocket upcharge.

First, the vast majority of OOs don't spec their trucks and do custom build... Yes some do, like ourselves but the majority buy trucks off the lot that the dealers put together with a mix of options they spec for a general target buyer.

No it costs to upgrade to SST with DBs, it's not about penny pinching or duals would've won. Our trucks are loaded, they're not the generic fleet spec stuff the Megas order and not the usual lot trucks, they're custom up specd units..

It's all about smart business and let's face it, about 2/3 of OO's are way too ignorant to know much of anything about truck specs or tires... Let alone how to be smart businessmen and women. The sheer amount of LPs in the industry is a prime example of the idiocy run amuk in this industry.

That's why truck dealers sell trucks to that crowd that are already built by dealers, very few know the options available or less yet understand how they affect anything. Allot of the OOs on the road are buffoons but the industry has been like that for a long time... The ignorance is astounding.
