I'm trying to find some info/advice to help a driver. I have a O/O that tried to lease to us here at Liberty Freight Co, but our insurance won't cover him.

He has about 4 years of OTR experience, but has been out of the game for over 10 years (kept CDL current). The oil field downturn forced him back into trucking and he decided to buy a truck. He can show some drive time in the past 3 years, but it's not verifiable per se. Is there a company out there that will take him as an O/O and not pay him $1.00/mile?

If not, anyone recommend a smaller company he can run with as a company driver for a while to be able to clear the insurance hurdle?

Have him move on to another job, insurance is the problem and a smaller company can’t absorb the cost of having him in the fleet.

It's probably not the option that he wants, but he could get his own authority.

He could run his own authority for 1 to 2 years. Check with Progressive for insurance rates. They will likely give him credit for the years his CDL was current, which will help reduce the cost of being a new O/O.
