I've been kicking around the idea of installing a master disconnect on my 97 379. Been hauling some fire trucks lately and noticed every one has master disconnect installed in the floor between the driver seat and door.
Anyone see any reason not to or, why OEM never install them? My truck is a 1997 379 with cat 3406E. Only thing I can think of is ECM and the radio. Can't think of any problems extended disconnect of power to the ECM would cause and, the radio is not a concern to me.
Any input would be welcome.
Battery master disconnect?

My last two new trucks had them factory installed.
Mounting it between the seat and door is a poor location imho.
I'm off-road alot.
Water snow and mud off your boots and gloves seems to run to the switch area. -
Where did they mount yours?

I had some trucks sitting for a while during the shutdowns ...it was such a pia dealing with dead trucks I started adding them to my fleet ...they are so cheap to do it's a no brainier for me

Good spot on 379 is in the side of the battery box. Cables and connections under cover. Handle of the switch on the outside. Rear side of the box is the best, keep off the road spray from the steer tire.

Put it on the ground side. Just about every piece of heavy equipment has them. Not gonna hurt the ECM or the radio.

Maybe @Goodysnap or @AModelCat can answer this but I was told by the Holt/Cat shop that did the overhaul on my 3126B that if there is no battery power to the ecm for a long period of time that the torque curve “flash” they did to up the power would erase and go back to factory default. I have a truck that is sitting for 4 more years until it hits 25 years old to “antique” plate it. I’ve been heeding their advise and just leaving one battery connected just in case. I charge and connect the others when I fire the engine up once a month for an hour or so.
