The other problem with Volvos is that their parts are expensive, and many of their parts are dealer-only.

Unfortunately every manufacturer is starting to drift in that direction.

I agree. If I need parts, I try to find something that doesn’t have the words Paccar or Peterbilt on them. Fortunately I can do that on most parts that actually help the truck function.

To the op: I’m strongly considering Volvo for my next truck. My first truck was a 386 with a deleted isx. That was a great truck. I bought a 2020 579 with an x15 efficiency last December, and I don’t think I’ll get another. It’s not any more efficient than my old truck and the cab seems pretty cheap relative to the 386. With that said, if you talk to 10 guys that have 579s, I may be the only one that is not a fan of them.

Older Pete's are pretty trucks, sound good, and think they were pretty reliable. But I wouldn't own one as my first choice.
359, 379...never was a big fan of inside cab.

    Motocross I prefer Yamaha

There you go each to their own long, as it not a notorious trouble maker, when people asked options.

    feldsforever and Brettj3876 Thank this.

I kick around the idea of getting an older truck now that I’m mostly local and not living in it but every time a decent one comes up I can’t pull the trigger on it because I can’t talk myself into giving up the wide cab of the 579. It’s quiet, the doors seal great, and there’s so much room.

On an unrelated note, the One Box is a known issue at a pretty consistent mileage range so why don’t people budget for replacement instead of acting surprised when it happens?

Because emission systems are maintenance free. Just turn key and go

The 579 has a wider interior than the 379?

Because preventive and planned maintenance are still dirty words to most in trucking.
Look at how long some a simple turbo and don't get how much damage you can do.
Or a changing a cheap airdryercartridge.

Yes, quite a bit more room.

Wow. That's impressive. Thanks for sharing. Now on to that, "One Box". WTF is that?
