Did freightliner intentionally set out to make a crappy automatic transmission?

The volvo ishift in my 15 and 17 were years ahead of this DT12 . With the performance/manual option and no training wheels or blocked out features , ishift is Much more predictable. Far more easy to back in tight holes compared to freightliner creepy or rocket launch mode .
This test truck is a total failure and trust me.. I am not a big fan of the wobbling gobblin Volvos with their huge A pillers and mirrors blocking the traffic and power steering feedback reminiscent of a wore out 1972 LTD.
Yeah freightliner handles like a sports car compared to bouncing , leaning over or rocking around like the cab of a Volvo 780 . ..
I dont miss riding in a cab balancing on beach balls ...
Oh but I'm sure I'll get flamed because some veteran of 2-3 years thinks it's the best thing ever.
Yeah , I know you millenials like every SAFTEY ""God forbid I address an overkill of SAFETY and be deamed an anti American "" or gadget and the latest crap suspensions or power steering so it feels like your moms Taurus or dodge neon. But in the end , the tons of
unnecessary technology crammed into these overrated trucks are doing you a huge disservice. But , I guess in 10 years when they are Autonomous they wont even have a driver to gripe about them... -

Mine does pretty much all the same things as the OP's does.
I can live with it taking forever to get to speed, the skip shifts, and can even live with it going into ECOAST while set up at the right speed to run the Engine Brakes down the mountain (when its dry), and having to use the Brakes to get it back to a speed where the EB will hold it.....
Last night I was driving on roads which were rained(froze) on prior to the snowfall and was getting pretty treacherous.
I have never had serious concerns on poor roads like this as I had always had control of the power I was putting to the ground...
With this set up as soon as I take my foot off the gas for a second it goes into ECOAST, so instead of being in control by having the engine dragging it down (No EB), it starts coasting, and the few times I was on a downhill started picking up speed necessitating the use of the brakes to get it back under control....
My simple rule for driving on Ice has always been "No sudden movements, Smooth and steady" When this #### thing kicks out of gear into neutral I believe it is a serious safety hazard.
Do you have a solution for this issue?
Thanks in advance.
P.S. I am from Canada, so every load I take I will be going from crap weather to good, and then back to crap...
P.S.S. And no I am not a new driver, just a driver who has always been able to control whether his truck was in gear or not! -
I will keep my 18 thoughCanadianhauler21 Thanks this. -
If it drove like Freightliner said it should you wouldn't be here asking why it's so messed up. -

To activate Descent Mode. First you turn on Stage 1 engine brake. Then slow the truck to any speed you want using the regular foot pedal brakes. Once you slow down to the speed you want. Take foot off brake pedal and push the SET cruise control button. This will lock the truck to the speed your going. The engine and transmission will now work together to hold that speed.ncmickey, kylefitzy and truckguy391 Thank this.
